Event Focuses On Fair Franchising

With a focus on improving franchisee/ franchisor relationships, members of the Asian American Hotel Owners Assn. met in March to evaluate the organization’s progress over the past year—particularly as it related to the group’s revised 12 points of fair franchising—and plan for the year ahead.

Last fall, AAHOA leadership revisited the organization’s 12 points of fair franchising, a document first built in 1998 to address franchising issues between members and hotel companies. The updated document takes into consideration how the hotel franchise system has expanded since 1998 and covers issues such as liquidated damages, cross-brand protection and vendor exclusivity among others. As part of the revision, leadership issued performance appraisal reports, or report cards, for several brands as evaluations and to generate feedback.

Since then, report cards have gone out to Choice Hotels International, Wyndham Worldwide, Accor, La Quinta, InterContinental Hotels Group and Carlson Hotels Worldwide.
