Dublin Mother's Baby Goods Gaining In Popularity
In 2002, Meredith Liepelt was a first-time mom living in Virginia and in desperate need of a burp cloth that didn’t bunch up on her shoulder.
Dusting off her grandmother’s sewing machine, she whipped up an hourglass-shaped, chenille-and-flannel burp cloth that was beautiful, absorbent and the envy of other moms. Soon she was giving them to friends who kept after her with this refrain: “You need to sell these.”
A year later, Liepelt, 38, garnered the courage to approach three Virginia-area baby boutiques about selling her product.
All three stores placed orders. Big orders. She immediately called her husband, Corey, and said, “I’m onto something.” And so Contemporary Baby and Liepelt’s new career as a designer and manufacturer of infant accessories were launched.
