Dressing For Two

The News Tribune:

When Doreen Jensen got pregnant, she knew what she was in for: morning sickness, a growing belly and ugly clothes.

“It’s either cheap and doesn’t fit well or really expensive,” she said. Or, perhaps worse, some maternity clothes look like children’s clothes.

Unlike glossy ads that show women in low-cut, belly hugging swimsuits and high heels might have you believe, pregnancy is not a valuable fashion accessory.

While most pregnant women have to bear it – along with a laundry list of other uncomfortable circumstances – Jensen, a designer, knew she could help.

So she started her own line of maternity clothes from her Tacoma home and called it Annette B., after her daughter.

Aside from fit, it was important to Jensen that she made maternity clothes that were just as fashionable as contemporary women’s clothing.

“Women just don’t want to change their image,” she said. “You want to keep your same style.” Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you want to wear ill-fitting sweats covered in fuzzy bunnies.
