Networking For Business Moms
The two friends and mothers of three children each had left well-paying jobs to become stay-at-home moms. But as their kids got older, the women decided they needed more.
“We were kind of at a crossroads and we wanted to do something else,” Reinhart said. “She [Remer] is organizing parties and events and I am a freelance writer for Wall 2 Wall [magazine] and also write speeches and fundraising campaign letters, and we wanted to pursue that, but how? Where do you go, how do you get those contacts?”
Reinhart realized that other women in her circle had the same problem, so together with Remer, she founded the Moms in Business networking organization. Their mission: to bring moms together to network and talk business, as well as offer support to each other. The first meeting was held late last summer at Reinhart’s house with about 25 women in attendance.
“When we had that first meeting at my house, I have never before felt that kind of positive energy… it just filled the room and it told me that we are onto something,” Reinhart said. “When you are a mother and you are with other mothers, there’s an immediate connection; often, these women are on the brink of something new and may feel guilty for wanting to do something on their own. There’s a built-in support system, but it’s also about giving each other business.”
