Kid-Friendly Cafe Opens In Downtown Neenah

Appleton-Post Crescent:

At your average cafe or restaurant, a crying baby is sure to elicit disapproving stares from other customers. And more than one crying infant can create pandemonium. But not at the Mom and Pop Place in downtown Neenah.

“That’s kind of what it’s like here. You’ve got kids running around, and that’s OK. Babies cry,” said Adria Ramos.

Ramos and her husband, Shiloh, opened the business earlier this month as a combination cafe and retail shop with a clear purpose and mission.

“I want to help people be the best parents they can be,” she said.

“I was looking for products I couldn’t find, and I was looking for ways to meet other parents,” she said. “I felt there were things I needed and I was having trouble finding them.”

Eventually, a leader in the local chapter of the La Leche League, as well as various support groups for new mothers, Ramos quickly discovered that a business opportunity was right in front of her.

“The more I talked to moms, the more I realized their needs were going unmet,” she said.

Eighteen months later, Ramos is surrounded by all the things she had been looking for and that complement her and her husband’s desire to carry products that are eco-friendly and aid Third World countries. The store, for example, sells Global Mamas clothing made by hand in Africa.
