Church’s Chicken announced on Thursday the launch of its Texas Chicken chain in Russia. The company’s franchisee plans to open from 25 to 30 restaurants in Russia within the next three years, which will be enough to compete with its arch rival KFC.
Zack Kollias, Vice-President of International Operations at Church’s Chicken, said the first Texas Chicken restaurant would open early August in Moscow with the second outlet opening in St. Petersburg in September. The U.S. company has picked European Active Corp. as its franchisee for Russia as well as Belarus and Ukraine.

Church’s Chicken has declared plans to open 70 restaurants in Russia within the next seven years and another 30 in Belarus and Ukraine. Starting investments in the project would be around $20 million, according to Mr. Kollias.
