The Arizona Republic:

If you have struggled with a pull tab on a can, or broken a nail on one, there’s a new kitchen gadget designed by Earl Weaver, 88, of Scottsdale, to help.

Weaver, a retired commercial Realtor, came up with the idea after he used a knife to lift the tab on a can of tomato soup. Then he yanked on the pull tab and got soup all over the kitchen. He experimented with a number of options until he came up with the Lift-off Opener.

It’s $2.99 at Fry’s, Walgreens, Albertsons, Bashas’ and Ace Hardware in the Arizona market. Ace Hardware stores nationally also are selling the opener.
