USA Today:

Here’s a news-to-me reason for family-owned small businesses to invest in technology: It’s a good way to keep companies family-controlled, a new survey out today says.

The Microsoft-sponsored survey of 252 business owners found that two-thirds “agreed that technology is a good way to attract younger generations into their companies.”

Why? Younger people tend to be more comfortable with new technologies, so might be tempted to skip a family business to join a company that invests more in hardware, software — and the occasional iPhone.

The survey found 83% of small-business owners were satisfied with recent tech investments. Satisfaction was especially high among the youngest owners: 93% for those under age 50 vs. 78% among those 50 to 64, and 67% among those 65 and up.
