Girl Invents Tool To Hone Her Lacrosse Skills

Hometown Annapolis:

For Moira Plantier, a “lax” attitude really paid off. Lax as in lacrosse, that is.

The 10-year-old Edgewater girl began playing about two years ago, but with no one in her neighborhood to practice with and no wall to throw against, it was hard to improve her ball handling.

Rather than just resign herself to a career on defense, she put on her thinking cap and came up a unique device that allows her to hone her skills. Called the Pop ‘N Catch Lacrosse Practice Attachment, it consists of an elastic cord tied to a lacrosse stick. One end of the cord is affixed to the stick, and the other is attached to a ball. When Moira throws the ball now, it snaps back courtesy of the shock cord.

The invention, which she developed over the winter, recently won one of two grand prizes in a statewide contest.

BKFK is looking into licensing for the product, and is investigating a patent. If the Pop ‘N Catch ever does come to market, the company would split the proceeds with Moira.

  • What a fantastic idea! Your Stickwork will save you! The feel of the ball on your stick and knowing where it is- the sweet spot or not can make a big difference between an on target hard shot on goal, and dropping the ball in a dodge!
