Inventor Has Rodent-Repelling Idea
The city’s got a brand new bag – and the Queens inventor says this one’s ratproof.
Inventor Joseph Dussich says his eucalyptus-scented garbage bags repel the bothersome rodents.
“The more they get near these garbage bags the more they want to get away,” said Dussich, CEO of JAD Corporation of America. “It doesn’t hurt them, but they don’t want to be near it.” And there’s definitely a market for Repel-X bags.
Experts estimate there are about eight or nine rats per person in New York City, or 64 million to 72 million rats. Other estimates put the number closer to two rats for every human – a mere 16 million.
“We are supplying right now a half-million bags a week,” Dussich said, adding that the scented bags cost no more than the odorless bags he provides.
He said most of the 2,000 residential buildings in the city that he supplies with janitorial supplies have made the switch to Repel-X. The bags, which also repel raccoons, are being used in Central Park and by the Nassau County Parks Department, he said.
