Business Puts Moms Creativity To Use
Lisa Spanbauer has found what many women seek: near perfect balance in her life. By turning something she loves to do into a business that allows her role as mother to come first, Spanbauer has found a way to fill the chasm between working mom and at-home mom.
Her business, Pottery Creations, is a traveling ceramics studio that operates on a home-party concept, allowing Spanbauer essentially able to choose the hours she works.
A mother of two girls, ages 5 and 7, Spanbauer was employed outside the home when her first daughter, Samantha, was born.
“My husband and I flexed jobs, but we decided it was just too rough. When our second (Lucy) was born, we knew there would be no one better to take care of our children than myself,” Spanbauer of Neenah said.
“It’s really easy because I can work this around my children’s schedules,” she said. “Working for myself has given me the flexibility to be available for my children.”
Pottery Creations is the culmination of Spanbauer’s 20 years experience with ceramics and an idea sparked by a visit to Door County, where her daughters made light switch plates as souvenirs.
