Jennifer Raybaud is what some might call a natural salesperson — warm, outgoing and determined to close the deal.

“I came out of the womb trying to sell the doctor something,” Raybaud said. “When I was 6 or 7 years old, other girls were playing dolls. I was going door-to-door playing the Avon lady. … I absolutely love the thrill of the sale.”

Raybaud traded her career as a legal secretary to become a stay-at-home mother in the early 1990s. By the end of the decade, she had two children and the itch to get back into the working world.

That was when Raybaud found Tastefully Simple Inc., a Minnesota-based company that sells more than 50 kinds of gourmet appetizers, meals, beverages and desserts. The direct-sales business works through consultants, who sell the easy-to-prepare products at taste-testing parties.

She started like any consultant, working hard to make her $400 quarterly sales goal. Today, Raybaud is a Tastefully Simple Senior Team Mentor and her home-based business produces nearly $6 million in annual sales. She is ranked as one of the company’s top five salespeople.

“I’d tell anyone to try direct sales,” Raybaud said. “It’s a great way to try owning your own business without all the risks.”
