Daughters Inspire Omaha Mom's Business

Denise Ervin traveled the world, and lived in Los Angeles. But the former Omaha costume designer felt that something was missing. And in the last couple years, she found a common thread that pulled all of her goals together.
It started with a business trip to China. Ervin was touched by a documentary about orphanages in China.
“I turned to my friend and said if I had the opportunity, I think that’s something I want to do,” said Ervin, recalling her desire to adopt.
She remembers her friend’s response. “What’s stopping you?”
Ervin welcomed new daughters Marie and Anna just a year apart. The girls are now 5 and 6 years old.
Ervin settled back in Omaha about two years ago. The girls have taken over Ervin’s bathroom, with a Polly Pocket village set up on the floor, complete with a swimming pool and a countless supply of thimble-sized plastic accessories. They also have a flair for fashion, so it’s no surprise that they inspired Ervin’s business, “Lucky Bug Clothing.”
There’s a Chinese belief that those destined to meet are connected by an invisible thread, and the thread is held by ladybugs.
So “Lucky Bug” seems to fit Ervin’s concept.
She designs girl’s clothing with an Asian flair, from play clothes to party dresses. Her daughters inspired her fall collection which includes black corduroy and cheetah-patterned dresses. Cotton tiered dresses with mix-and-match colors mix comfort and style, attached to a T-shirt- style bodice.
The business gives Ervin the flexibility of being a work-at-home mom, something she cherishes.
