The following guest post is by Siim Einfeldt of Business Advice Pro.

The world is full of different business opportunities for you to learn from. It’s always a good idea to see what successful entrepreneurs are doing and then copy them. That’s how many new business ideas have been generated – by copying. But there’s more to creating a successful business and that’s and that’s exactly what I’m going to talk about in this new weekly guest column. More regular posts from me can be found from Business Advice Pro.

Welcome to The Big What If
What if you wanted to do things your own way. What if you wanted to do things differently, what if you actually did things differently than you’re used to? In every post I try to talk about a different idea, different question for you to think about. And just to say – I will not be bringing out too many examples, but rather the questions themselves are important, the “big what if’s”. The reasons why they are important and how asking these questions might help you on the way of becoming a big arse entrepreneur.

This week’s topic: What if money was no obstacle?

We often tend to tell ourselves that “if only we had” that much money or possibilities, oh if only … then we could own the world and do the things the way we want to. Well, sometimes money is not an obstacle, even if you don’t have it, your mind is. Get out of your imaginary world! Get out and see the possibilities. Don’t imagine them. See them. And then imagine how to take advantage of them.

Let’s get going!
As you’re reading this blog, I’m sure you already have a business or are thinking about creating one. And usually this means you also have one or 299 problems that you need to find a solution for. Or if you don’t, just think of some.

Now take this problem and start thinking about how you would solve it if you had ALL the resources you’d ever need, all the money you’d ever need. How would you solve your problem now?

[Write your problem and ideas for solving it with unlimited money.]

Just do it!

Now, as we all know, money isn’t everything. In theory anyhow - in life we often tend to forget about that. And our excuses for doing things one way or another (not the good way anyhow) is often that we do not have enough resources to do things the way we’d like to. The problem with this approach is often that we don’t even think of what we’d actually do if we had the money.’

“Imagine you have all the money in the world to complete your task, to solve your problem that needs solving. Yes, I know you don’t have it, but imagine you do!”

Don’t forget about the ideas!
Whatever you do, you need to start by generating ideas. And this week, you need to generate ideas to solve your problem as IF you had all the resources you’d ever need. And don’t hurry, you need good ideas - with bad ideas you can’t even do something well with unlimited resources. Ideas are needed, good ideas.

[Did you take the time to think of a problem and list down ideas on how you'd solve it with loads of money? If you didn't, do it now. ]

I bet your solution to your problem with unlimited resources was not just “I’d pay everyone a lot,” or if it was, I’d consider starting a job search, preferably nothing related to creativity.

Well, I do hope you haven’t landed on some job site by now. Creativity can be learned. As a next thing gather all the different ideas from your lengthy text and make a bulleted list of things you’d do. I’d suggest you replace the word money and specific mentions to it everywhere with something else (if you have the word somewhere at all). E.g. If you initially put down that you’d “pay everyone shitloads from the beginning” then you might consider changing it to something like “I’d make it worthwhile to everyone from the beginning” – this means that you don’t necessarily pay everyone anymore, but you might consider using other options of making it all worthwhile for everyone involved. Maybe it wasn’t the best example but I hope you get the point.

Now what?
Now that you have your list, hopefully consisting of anywhere up to 5-10 different thoughts, it’s time to go on. Take 10-30 minutes to think of each of those thoughts. And think how you could achieve the intended results with LIMITED money. You put down these thoughts when you thought you had unlimited resources. Now you need to think how you could do the same things you were to do with unlimited capital, with no or just a minor budget.

In many cases you’ll end this task with a conclusion that you don’t actually need unlimited resources and you can do the same things already now.
