Designer Kids

South Jersey Life:

Candy Copsetta’s Washington Township boutique was stocked with vintage dresses, rocker T-shirts and celebrity-sported footwear. Her customers have hailed from as far as California to buy the clothes that are often more than $100 per item and look like they came straight off the (kitty)catwalk.

The selection at Little Big Shots, a boutique selling children’s clothing and accessories, reflected a growing trend in children’s fashion that has popularized dressing kids in shrunken adult fashions.

Consequently, the pastels and fluffy cartoon animals that usually characterize kids’ clothes have made room for trendier selections. Children’s fashion has gone from baby chicks to baby chic.

“My customers want grown up clothes,” Copsetta said. “They like their kids to look like mini versions of themselves.

“People want something a little different, a little jazzier. Everyone’s about the bling these days,” she joked.

The clothes in the store reflected her point. Some top sellers from the “My Vintage Baby” line included a tank top encrusted with Swarovski crystals, matched with leopard-trimmed floral pants ($161.95), and a dress made of a vintage table cloth, clasped with a large crystal button ($85.95).
