Entrepreneur Creates Medical Kit For Surfers

ABC:
Surfing can be a risky business. Fly away boards hurt on impact, wetsuits cause rashes and skin isn’t much protection from sharp coral reefs.
Like most surfers, Scott Lambert and his mates had first hand experience with all the various surfing injuries.
So when putting together a medicine kit for his natural medicine studies, then student Scott realised something tailored specifically to surfers might be a seller.
“What we wanted to do was treat all the injuries and ailments surfers are going to come across on their travels – like coral cuts, lacerations, sea urchin spikes, bruises, sprains, and rashes under the arm and in the groin,” says Scott.
The final product is compact and waterproof medical kit with 21 different components, eight of which you’d find in a standard medical kit, including scissors, tweezers, cotton balls, gauze and iodine wipes.
The rest of the items in the kit are designed for surfers, including everything from Chinese antiseptic for coral cuts, waterproof tape for wrapping joints (and board dings), to a sea urchin picker and wound suture supplies. There’s also a surfers handbook with advice for different emergency situations.
