Mom-And-Pop Niche In Radio Market
Savannahians who tune in to 1400 on the AM dial are in for something a little different. The former gospel station is the new home for classic oldies from crooners such as Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Michael Buble and Tony Bennett.
Part of the MarMac Communications family, Star 1400 isn’t looking to be another Top 40 station. Owners Gary and Sharon Marmitt believe they’re filling a void in the market.
“It’s a great city,” said Sharon Marmitt, who manages the business end of things. “And a great radio market.”
And the Marmitts don’t want to just be media moguls, they want to be real down-home Savannahians.“We don’t just want to serve the community,” said Gary Marmitt, “We want to super serve.”
He explained that in radio you have two sets of customers, the advertisers and the listeners. “Our goal is to take care of both,” he said.
The new format has been on the air since August and the Marmitts have had a lot of positive feedback.
