New "Girlie" Boutique Softens Business District

The Courier News:

Most everyone has heard the term “shabby chic” when it comes to home dí¨cor trends. But Kasey Buick has decided to narrow that trend toward everything girlie with the opening of her fun new store.

Dubbed a “shabby girl shop” by Buick, Lola B’s Boutique in downtown St. Charles carries the finest in girlie-girl home dí¨cor and gifts, says the St. Charles resident.

Shabby chic, by definition, is a style originally found in large British country homes, where faded chintz sofas and curtains, worn furniture and old paintwork achieve an overall elegant effect.

Buick has already benefited from the trend, which began in the U.S. a decade ago, owning a similar shop in Castle Rock, Colo., where she lived before moving to St. Charles this past summer.

“As far as shabby chic goes, either you love it or hate it,” Buick said with a laugh. “In Colorado, the trend is very popular.”

Marketing her store to younger moms and their daughters, Buick chose the Century Corners shopping center for its quaintness and availability. The store had a soft opening Oct. 2 with a grand opening planned for Nov. 28.

Lola B’s Boutique is named for Buick’s daughter, Lola, who provided her mom with the business idea through sheer inspiration.
