'Mompreneurs' Balance Businesses And Family
About nine years ago, Jennifer Price of Kearney was a single mom who needed a job.
But it couldn’t be just any job, for she needed the flexibility to care for her young daughter. She called her aunt, who owned a cleaning business, and told her she wanted to come work for her and then eventually buy the business.
Her plan worked beautifully. When she bought the company, she had one employee. Now, New Image Cleaning Inc. employs nine, with Price at the helm. She also is a personal assistant to several of her cleaning customers.
“I didn’t want to be a mom who works nights and weekends,” she said. “And as the business grew, I wanted to be able to employ other women and give them that same thing. I understand if they have to stay home because their kids are sick. It’s definitely a team effort. Even our customers understand.”
Price, who now has two children and is remarried, is just one in a growing army of women across the country who start and run businesses so they can be more accessible to their children.
