Small-Business Owners ‘Sleepworking’

Inc.:

It’s been said the American Dream is for dreamers. Now, a new survey confirms that a majority of U.S. entrepreneurs continue running their businesses even as they sleep, regularly putting business ideas that came to them in dreams into action.

In an online survey of 300 small-business owners, 51 percent said they regularly dream about work, according to Staples, the office supply store chain. Among these “sleepworkers,” as many as 70 percent said they put business ideas that came to them in dreams into action.

“Our customers often tell us there just aren’t enough hours in the day, so it’s understandable that business activity is invading sleep time,” John Guisti, vice president of small business marketing at Staples, said in a statement.

The survey also found that small-business owners worked many nights, weekends and vacations while wide awake.
