Fitness Program For New Moms Puts Babies Into The Workout, Too

Auburn Journal:

For one group of new Auburn stay-at-home moms, squeezing in a workout between laundry, dishes and diaper changes can become nearly impossible.

“You can get so lost in the chores and before you know it, you have been home for three days straight without getting out of the house once,” said Jaime Nattrass, an Auburn mom of two children, Tyler, 2, and Aubrey, 6 months. “I found it really hard to get the gym and a lot of them don’t take infants.”

Nattrass heard about and began attending a Stroller Strides class in Folsom – a unique fitness program for new moms that incorporates both baby and stroller.

Founded in 2001, Stroller Strides has grown to include 300 locations and more than 15,000 participants nationwide.

She fell in love with the class, and in September 2006, she launched and now instructs a class in Auburn.

“This is a way to meet other new moms who are going through the same things,” Nattrass said while hosting a class Friday at Auburn’s Regional Park. “It offers a great combination of getting fit after the baby while enjoying the support of other moms experiencing the newness, joys and challenges of motherhood. We can get a full body workout and engage our children when they get fussy at the same time.”

In 60 minutes, Nattrass and her class get a total body workout focusing on improving cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility.
