On Monday, we ran a poll asking what percentage of US consumers do not have any Internet access?

One hundred and fifty-one readers participated with the answer 32 percent coming in first with 59 votes. Next was 24 percent with 53 votes.

I think my hint that I was surprised by the number influenced these numbers. The correct answer was 24 percent or every 1 out of 4 US consumers do not have any Internet access.

It wasn’t mentioned in the study, but I wonder if they counted the people who get access at public libraries? Every time I’m in the library I always see the Internet computers packed with users.

Then I came across an even more stunning Internet access statistic.

The China Internet Network Information Center, a non profit state network information center founded in 1997, recently released its year end report on development of the Internet in China. Based on that report the number of Chinese Internet users reached 210 million in 2007. And yet 84% of Chinese consumers are still not online! 84 percent!
