Women's Group Honors Dallas Business Owner

The Dallas Morning News:

Dallas business owner Patricia Rodríguez-Christian was in her late 20s and single when she realized that – contrary to a popular mantra – you really can’t have it all.

“When you figure it out, you’re really ticked off,” she said this week. “I started thinking, ‘What if I had children? Is this really what I want?’ ”

The anger spurred her to action.

She gave up a fast-paced, life-out-of-a-suitcase job with the U.S. Department of Commerce and went back to school to get a master’s degree in public administration.

Once you’ve figured out the complexity of a budget, you can take it anywhere, she figured.

Today, she’s a 41-year-old successful entrepreneur with a business that generates seven figures in revenue. And, she’s also a mom to a 5-year-old son.

Last week, she received the Woman Business Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Women’s Business Council-Southwest for her business leadership and vision and investment in the community, and for overcoming hurdles thrown her way.

For Ms. Rodríguez-Christian, a close-knit family and home life were the driving force she needed to get ahead.

“You are what your parents gave you,” she said. “They taught me to never let anybody tell you who you are.”

She saw herself as capable of competing with the Pitney Bowes and Xerox companies of the world, and she locked up her first contract with TXU in 2000 not long after founding her company, CRC Group Inc.

The firm provides print, copy, delivery and other business support services to major corporations in the Dallas area.

“In the last 20 years, corporations have figured out the need to let managers focus on their core business and outsource everything else,” she said. That’s where her company comes in.

It sounds pretty mundane: pick up the mail, sort it, pick it up at the end of the day, and take it to the post office. But could industry survive without it? Not likely.
