ScreenBooth: Digital Video At Your Event

ScreenBooth is an interesting franchise out of Hawaii. It is a portable digital guestbook for weddings, proms and corporate events. On the 32 inch digital kiosk, guests find and select their name in the menu. Then they can either record a video greeting, or have a still photo taken and type a message. After the event, the host receives a DVD from ScreenBooth with greetings and messages from all of their guests.

Although the user interface was designed to be user friendly and intuitive, ScreenBooth encourages their franchisees to have a live person stay with the machine during an event. This requirement does increase the businesses overhead, but the ScreenBooth is a computer, and unlike a bounce house the user experience will benefit from having an expert onsite.

The Money

The complete turnkey franchise is $35,000. All equipment and on-site training is provided along with on-going technical support as long as the franchise is active. After the initial year, there is a $1500 license renewal annually.

The company has found that $700-800 is a good rental rate for three hours at a wedding. For cases where there will be multiple end-users (such as a prom, every student would get a DVD), they charge $10 per student. According to ScreenBooth, they are a big hit with the schools because the students see them as a digital yearbook.
