Atlanta-based fast-food chain Church’s is playing chicken with KFC and McDonald’s in an ongoing struggle to claim more customers worldwide through a massive expansion in Russia and beyond.

Never before in its 56-year history has Church’s Chicken, owned by Cajun Operating Co., seen an expansion at this pace, a company spokesman said.

Over the next five years the chain will open 100 new restaurants, under the moniker “Texas Chicken,” in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan with franchisee Yuri Tetrov through European Active Corp.
