10 Tips For Balancing Business And Home

Debbie Travis at National Post:

10. Steal the housekeeping. Every woman, married or not, should have some money set aside. My mom used to call that “stealing the housekeeping.” Set aside $50 every month, so you can always close a door and walk out.

9. Stop being so shy. It’s just a waste of time.

8. Think big. It’s not just selling a teacup. It’s designing it. Getting it into the right stores. Then making the plates, dishes and paints, too.

7. Love what you do. When I’m bored, that’s when I want to hide in my bed.

6. Hire people who are better than you. Never be ashamed.

5. Nobody wants a wishy-washy boss or mother. Discuss different solutions, but it’s up to you to make decisions. Make them.

4. Hire someone for free and they’re not going to last. Pay everyone who works for you.

3. Don’t be so gentle with your children. Tell them about your business. Let them know mommy is working hard this month – but if it goes well, we’ll all have dinner out Friday night.

2. Men are little boys and want to be stroked. They like to be made to feel special. Women are tougher. Remember that when you negotiate.

1. Get drunk with a girlfriend and tell them you hate your kids and loathe your husband. It’s normal! My girlfriend will turn up with a bottle of wine and say, “Ever want to throw them out the window?” I say, “All the time!” Build up your network. You’re a mother and a businesswoman – that does not mean you’re alone.

  • 1. Get drunk with a girlfriend and tell them you hate your kids and loathe your husband.?

Bill, I have to agree with you on this. This doesnt sound much like a tip to anyone by getting drunk and trash talk your family. What kind of balance do you get from this?

A better way is to take your girlfriends out to a rave party and dose up on the esctasy and tell the world how much you love your family and work for a better balance wouldn’t you agree? :)

Be passionate and appreciate everyone in your life for a better balance of life and business.
