New Business Offers Services To New Parents
Caring hearts and hands of two Madison moms are reaching out to other families. It’s part of a grassroots effort to start a small business called “Mother’s Little Helpers.”
“The idea for the business came out of my own experience of needing help after my son, Caynan, was born,” says Cassidy Kirkpatrick. “Even though I had family and friends around for quite a bit of support, there still was always a need for more.”
Her friend and business partner, Taylor Torcaso, had similar experiences with the birth of her son, Hugh, a year ago.
“I felt like I had support throughout the pregnancy and postpartum period, but help continues to be needed after that,” Torcaso says.
Helpful tasks typically done by their new business range from cooking and cleaning, to running errands and playing with older children so a mother can spend time with a new infant.
Beyond launching a business that provides help to other parents, the pair of new moms also wants to establish a network of community support for families.
“My wish is to develop supportive relationships with our clients so what starts to build is a ‘village’ or an extended community,” Kirkpatrick says. “It’s all about parents, especially mothers, coming together and paying attention to our emotional health.”
