Should Online Entrepreneurs Think Long-Term?
This is a guest post by Alan Johnson.
It seems that “now” is definitely one of the most commonly-used words among online entrepreneurs these days. You can hear people talking all of the time about what they are doing now, about what results they are currently experiencing, yet a lot of them don’t seem interested in seeing the big picture, they focus exclusively on “today” and end up forgetting to also think about tomorrow.
If you are interested in being successful in the long-run then you should definitely steer clear of a short-term way of thinking. No matter what kind of a project we are referring to, thinking about the future is always a must. You have to constantly ask yourself if a certain project of yours is on the right track in order to make sure that things don’t start going downhill.
Think about it: if you choose to limit yourself to thinking about today, about the task you need to take care of at a certain point then your project might actually start heading towards the wrong direction without you even knowing it. Sure, it may seem that you are being quite productive and that you are taking care of one task after another, but are you really working towards achieving your long-term goals or did you let routine get the best of you?
A lot of times, routine will prove to be your worst enemy. In this dynamic industry, you stand no chance at making it in the long run if you don’t keep up. Things change and a task you were, up until a certain point, taking care of on a regular basis may no longer be worth your time. If you let routine get the best of you then it should come as no surprise that you will inevitably end up losing track of what’s actually important.
“Busy” is another word which can and will keep you from thinking long-term. More than a few online entrepreneurs use their schedule, or, in other words, the fact that they think they are way too busy worrying about today to think about the future as an excuse. I hope it doesn’t come as a huge surprise that you would be the only one losing out as a result of such an attitude.
Yes, as an online entrepreneur, you should always think long-term, you should always try to see each project of yours in perspective and make sure that things are always on the right track. No matter how busy you think you are, you will always be able to spare a few moments in order to think about the future if you are actually willing to give it a try. Depending on your attitude, you can either end up congratulating yourself or regretting your decisions down the road, everything is entirely up to you.
What is your approach as an online entrepreneur? Are you currently thinking long-term or are you trying to use the fact that you are too busy as an excuse for not seeing things in perspective?
