When I first learned about this product I was surprised that I’d never heard of it before. I was even more surprised that it hadn’t been created sooner. It is yet another great product to help make our lives a little easier, but without skimping on the safety of our children.
Oopsy Daisy! is a product line made by Debby DeOliveira which began with a rinse-free shampoo for kids. Children are notorious for getting messy and sometimes their just isn’t enough time to get them in the bathtub before needing to walk out the door. Or it happens while away from home. Their is only so much a napkin can do to save what was a clean child.
Debby didn’t stop there, though. Born out of her idea for the shampoo came other great products such as the rinse-free body wash and other fun products.
With this interview, Debby is offering a bottle of her “High Chair Hair Care” rinse-free shampoo and a bottle of her “No Bath Bubble Bath” rinse-free body wash as a giveaway to one of our readers.
If you’re interested in winning these great products for you to try on your own children, leave a comment below. The contest starts now and ends May 7th at 11:59pm. I will choose a winning comment on May 8th. The winner will be contacted by email, so don’t forget your email address with your comment!

What was your inspiration?
When you’re a mom inspiration is everywhere. Just trying to get from one day to the next is a challenge. I think every mom tries to figure out new ways to make life easier. When I had my second daughter Emmy my first daughter Lili was just nineteen months old. Lili was really becoming this independent little girl and wanted to do everything herself. Mealtime was a biggie, she certainly earned an “A” for effort, but her technique was far from perfect. She would get as much food in her hair as in her mouth. Having a newborn at the time, it was impossible to take Lili upstairs and put her in the tub after every meal and snack. I tried to clean her hair with a paper towel and water but, when it dried it felt yucky! I needed a way to wash her hair without the bathtub. That’s when the light bulb went on.
How long did it take you to come up with the right formula for your products?
Once I found a laboratory to help me it took about nine months. Coming up with a rinse free formula was not difficult, but getting the right combination of ingredients was. I wanted it be made with natural ingredients that were safe and gentle on a baby’s skin. I did a lot of research online and every time the lab sent me an ingredient list I investigated each ingredient, sometimes suggesting more gentle alternatives we could use. I even mixed essential oils to find the perfect combinations to create just the right scent. I was very involved. I had to be. These were products I wanted for my children and they were my test subjects!
How long did it take for you to create your first product?
Once the formula was complete the products came together very quickly. When I told my friends about it they all wanted to try it. So, when I would get a sample from the lab, our play dates became more like focus groups. When they started asking for it and then their friends started asking for it, I knew I was on to something. My products all came together about the same time. Once I was close to finishing the rinse free shampoo, I decided to do the rinse free body wash. It felt like the perfect companion product. So many parents use the alcohol based hand sanitizers which are not good for little ones. The alcohol is very drying and can be dangerous when they put their hands in their mouths. Creating a natural way to clean up when you’re running around seemed like the next logical step. I was having so much fun and I was really learning a lot about the types of products parents wanted for their kids, it wasn’t long before I had created a whole line.
How long from the creation did it take you to launch your business?
It was immediate. I had registered to do a trade show so, I had a deadline. I had one week from the time the first manufacturing run was completed until I was in Las Vegas selling it to the stores. Having the tradeshow as a deadline really helped me stay focused and get everything together.
How many different types of products do you offer?
I currently have five products High Chair Hair Care rinse free shampoo, No Bath Bubble Bath rinse free body wash Pip Squeaky Clean traditional shampoo & body wash, Kiddo Kream head to toe moisturizer and Cutie Pie Curlz leave in conditioner and detangler.
What kind of feedback have you received from people who have used your products?
The feedback has been great! I’ve had people buy one bottle and call me the next day want more, “one for the car, the stroller, grandma’s house, etc…” A funny thing happened the other day, someone said to me “Cutie Pie Curlz really works”, I just smiled. It’s funny how emotionally tied to the products I’ve become. When someone tells me that it has made their day easier or certain parts of their day more pleasant it doesn’t get better than that. I’ve always said that oopsy daisy! is my 3rd child and when people tell me how much they love it, I feel like any proud parent!
What advice have you received that has been invaluable in business?
I think it was more of an example than advice. It’s all about passion! My parents are both entrepreneurs and I grew up watching them run their businesses. I always wanted to have my own business and I’d tried things in the past but without much success. It wasn’t until my girls inspired me that I found the passion I needed, that’s when it all came together.
What sort of steps did you take to get your business up and running?
While the products were being formulated I started to put together my ideas for the labels. That was a lot of fun because I used photos of my girls that my husband had shot. He is very creative and tech savvy and brought my vision to life by designing the logo and labels. I had to form a corporation and file for my business licenses. I started working on the design of the website. There are so many things you need to do. It’s a bit overwhelming but, it all somehow comes together in the end, when you need, you get it.
How do you manage your life as a mom around running a business?
Oh gosh, it’s hard. The girls are now two and three and a half and in preschool, so that’s when I work. I do catch myself wanting to sit down at the computer and work when they are home and I have to remind myself that the girls need my attention. It’s a balancing game. I know time goes so quickly and they are growing so fast. When I do trade or consumer shows, which usually take place on the weekend, they come with me. Lili loves to help and hand out flyers. It’s fun to involve them and make it a family business, after all without them oopsy daisy wouldn’t exist!
What experiences as a parent have you been able to use in business?
I’d have to say patience. I’m so passionate about oopsy daisy that I want everyone to know about it now! I know it will take nurturing and patience to grow, just like my girls!
Do you have any advice for other moms who are interested in taking steps to create a new product and market it such as you have?
First and foremost you have to be passionate about what you are creating because when you’re trying to raise a family and launch a new business, both are full time jobs! For me, I knew I had something that would not only help me but, help other parents too and that was exciting. If you’ve got the right product then I’d have to say that the internet is your best friend. Start your research; look at other businesses that are like yours, what are they doing and how are they doing it? You can do a lot yourself but know your limitations and find the right team to work with you. Then hold on, it’s a crazy ride!

My daughter is always a mess. She can practically creates mess out of nothing and the part is that she hates taking a bath. Im so tired of always dragging her around just so she can take a bath.
