Using Wikipedia For Your Biz

net business blog:

When you type a certain term in Google, chances are the result will show a Wikipedia page somewhere at the top of the search results. Have you ever considered using this online encyclopedia as a tool to drive traffic to your website? If so, then you are among the large number of marketers who want to get traffic from Wikipedia to their websites.

You should realize though that Wikipedia was flooded with poor quality links in the past so they cleverly utilized the NOFOLLOW tag on all their external links. But if you cannot benefit from placing links on Wikipedia, what is the purpose of posting there anyway? Well, you will benefit from having an improved reputation, for example. And this should be your goal when you decide to contribute to the Wikipedia community.

Take note though that you should pass Wikipedia’s “notability test” to be included in its entries. These small efforts can go a long way in establishing your site’s positive reputation. Traffic will inevitably increase if you are proven to be knowledgeable in your field.
