Bediboo Eco-Friendly Baby Gear
A couple of years ago, Gretchen Pike, a mother with a couple of very small children, started an Internet company selling the kind of baby gear you can’t find everywhere, like Ergo baby carriers, old-fashioned European and wooden toys, and eco-friendly kids’ clothes. Her husband christened it “Bediboo.”
The business took over their house, Pike says, and their dining room became a storeroom for inventory. The next step was inevitable: She opened a brick-and-mortar baby boutique in Lauraville.
Bediboo the store is as cute as the name. The tiny, freshly painted storefront has unusual baby presents (and a gift registry), books, strollers and clothes for children up to 4 years old. The toys are what Pike calls “open-ended,” leaving much to a child’s imagination. No batteries or plastic included.
The tiny sundresses, shirts, pants and outfits are mostly from small or local companies. Bediboo also has its own line of clothes, Emmaline Pea.
Bediboo’s prices are modest compared to most baby boutiques. Toys sell from $5 to $30, and clothes from $11 to $36.
