A national foundation thinks a business idea by Merissa Dominguez, a 17-year-old area student, could have seniors asking each other, “Where did you get your hair done?”

Dominguez, a senior at Stamford High School, has been selected, along with 41 other students from around the country, to receive a 2008 Global Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

Called “Merissa’s Touch,” Dominguez’s business would serve senior citizens at hospitals and retirement homes, and include shampooing and conditioning, braiding, and coloring. According to Joel Warren, executive director with the foundation, “Dominguez’s business would do well serving the high-end nursing homes in the area and could start a “where did you get your hair done?” buzz.

“I think I really worked hard on my business plan, and the hard work paid off. I’m getting recognized by people I thought I never would have,” said Dominguez, who is a manager at the Stamford Raceway and works for the Stamford Springdale Animal Hospital after school.
