Mom Solves Son's Fashion Problem With Her Own Online Store
Two years ago, Wilmington mom Meg Henson was living a fashion nightmare.
The stay-at-home mom wanted her 3-year-old son, Holden, to look hip, but it seemed every store she shopped was full of mediocre boys clothing. Nothing stood out.
It was a world of blah, blah, blue. Blah, blah, forest green. Blah, blah, khaki.
Add the lovely experience of shopping with a toddler, and she was ready for a change.
“I hated driving around to stores with him and getting him in and out of that seat,” Henson added. “We just went into Gap to get a swimsuit one time and he was screaming in the changing room.”
This design-conscious mom wasn’t asking for much. Just boys clothing with a little design, a little style and a little edge. Young girls’ clothing has that. Why shouldn’t boys’?
That’s where her comic book-themed online store Ker-Blam – modern boy clothes for your little superhero – was born.
Last May, she launched the Web site with boys shoes, clothing, ties and swimwear that features high-end brands including Alternative Apparel, Okkies, Sand Cassels and Trumpette, with sizes up to age 8.
