Clothing Rental For Size-Changing Dieters

Springwise:

For dieters working to lose weight, maintaining a decent wardrobe of clothes that fit can be an ongoing—and expensive—challenge on the way to a target size.

With just that situation in mind, Transitional Sizes rents out name-brand clothing for temporary use while the pounds come off.

Maryland-based Transitional Sizes, which just recently launched, offers women’s and maternity clothing in a range of sizes for monthly rental fees ranging from about USD 3 to USD 25. (Men’s clothes are coming soon, the site says.)

Customers order items in the sizes they need and keep them for as long as they want; once they’re done, they clean them per the instructions provided by Transitional Sizes and send them back in the original box.

Customers needn’t be members to order from the site, but membership packages ranging from USD 10 to USD 40 per year are designed to give dieters a range of extra perks, including coupons, discounts, email alerts and weight-loss incentives.

  • If you’ve ever purchased clothing from a used store you probably know that the clothing that’s been stretched to fit an individual probably won’t fit you the same. Especially if you were both different heights, shaped differently, etc.

For instance, maybe when you ‘rent’ a pair of their pants the person before you had bigger thighs, or a bigger behind than you. When you put those pants on, they are going to be stretched out and won’t fit you right. From the sounds of it, you’d have to go through the send back process and hope the next item would fit better.

If pre-worn clothing doesn’t bother you, it can be pretty cheap (and you can try them on, in most cases, before you buy) from used clothing stores. A good example would be our local Goodwill which charges $5 (and less) for a pair of jeans.

The idea is a nice one, but I don’t know how much of a need there is for rental in-between-weight-loss clothing.

  • I think this is a nice idea especially those pregnant woman. After giving birth ofcourse they wont wear their preggy dresses anymore. Renting clothes is a bit practical than buying a new one.

  • You can ‘rent’ dresses at DressVault.com (we call it ‘borrowing’ : ) or lend what you already own!
