Entrepreneur Has An Eye Out For Your Lids

PalmBeachPost:

Perched on a stool at the cosmetics counter, watching every expert stroke of the brush in the mirror, taking careful mental notes of where the taupe is applied and how the plum is blended, you think to yourself smugly, “I can do this.”

Irina Iosilevich’s invention? Press-on, peel-off eye shadow.

The all-mineral colorOn appliqués are hypoallergenic, crease-proof and long-lasting, withstanding both the swelter of South Florida and the intense lights of TV studios. A journalist in Russia before emigrating to South Florida in 1979, Iosilevich began working stateside as an English-as-a-second-language teacher. When her school fell victim to budget cuts, Iosilevich got a job as a makeup artist with Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbour and, later, Sephora in Boca Raton.

Her customers jokingly begged her to come home with them, so they could enjoy her makeup artistry on a daily basis. Iosilevich decided to develop a new method of makeup application based on one of her favorite childhood pastimes back in Russia, playing with colored-pencil transfers.

Her ultimate vision for colorOn? “To become an empire. And have fun doing it.”

  • There are so many people who are probably reading this and thinking, “Why didn’t I come up with that first?”

I’ve been applying my own makeup for who knows how long. No matter what I can never make it look professional enough for my tastes. This is a great biz idea and I hope it continues to grow!
