Air conditioning unit thefts are heating up. From January to June, 71 AC units have been stolen in Cape Coral alone. But ABC7 found a North Fort Myers inventor who may have the answer.
At the Broadway Community Church, a thief ripped apart one of the AC units and stole the metal inside.
But Scott Cromley is building what may be a cutting edge solution. He calls his patent pending invention Secure-Air.
When it comes to the building and the concept, it’s pretty simple. He just puts a strong, steel barrier around an AC unit and the base is drilled into the ground.
Cromley says when it comes to his invention; all you need to do is lock it and leave it. He says if would be thieves try to get through this steel; it’s going to take a lot of nerve.
“If you put one of these cages on, you’re reducing your risk so much,” said Cromley.
And with all of the thefts, Cromley’s business is starting to take off.

It sounds very practical and like a good idea. Hopefully his business will continue to grow.
