Bradenton Herald:

Jacob Brockhoff faced the unknowns of heart surgery and in conquering them, has launched his own skateboard design firm.

“I picked it because I have a broken heart,” said Jacob of his Broken Hart Bord design, which decorates the red-and-white skateboards he is selling, with proceeds earmarked for the American Heart Association.

“I got the idea because I was drawing pictures, and I remembered I was going to have heart surgery,” the 11-year-old said.

The Palmetto Elementary fifth-grader, who is recovering from heart surgery in June, is selling his own skateboard design from home and at The Yard, a local Bradenton skate shop.

Jacob figured if he had to temporarily give up skateboarding because of his illness, maybe he could at least raise money for a good cause.

“He just ran with it,” she said. “He’s very business-minded at a young age.”
