Union-Tribune:

Hauling giant silver screens to outdoor events statewide may seem like a weighty undertaking, but the inflatable screens used by Fallbrook-based Hollywood Outdoor Movies make it easy.

That’s according to owner John Snyder.

Snyder, 37, says he doesn’t mind that his job regularly requires him to lug screens reaching up to 135 feet by 75 feet to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“It’s fun; it allows me to see the state,” Snyder said.

It all started when his 9-year-old son Ethan, who hopes to grow up to be a movie director, wanted to celebrate his birthday with a movie party for friends.

Snyder thought it would be fun to rent an outdoor screen like the ones at the drive-ins he grew up with on the East Coast. In checking into renting the screen, Snyder discovered an untapped market.

In the year and a half since it started up, Snyder’s Fallbrook-based business has rented out screens for birthday parties, elementary school movie nights and even business presentations.

The wide screen can really help, especially in a concert, those who are far from the stage can still see what the performers do in the stage.
