Why Didn’t I Think Of That? Bacon Alarm Clock

By on August 1, 2008 in Inventions

Matty Sallin Blog:

No one likes to wake up, especially by an alarm.

The Wake n’ Bacon gently wakes you up with the mouthwatering aroma of bacon, just like waking up on a Sunday morning to the smell of Mom cooking breakfast.

A frozen strip of bacon is placed in the night before. Because there is a 10 minute cooking time, the clock is set to go off 10 minutes before the desired waking time.

Once the alarm goes off, the clock sends a signal to a small speaker to generate the alarm sound.

We hacked the clock so that the signal is re-routed by a microchip that responds by sending a signal to a relay that throws the switch to power two halogen lamps that slow-cook the bacon in about 10 minutes.

Jeez, I wish I had found this sooner! I love it!

It would have saved my foot from being “bacon” instead!

It’s greatly inspiring idea. I myself belong to those who find it difficult to easily wake or get up in the morning. I think I must give this idea a try.

Wouldn’t the bacon be rotten though by morning? Seems like a lot of work to remember to put a piece of bacon in your alarm clark every night.

yeah.. esp if you had a very tiring day.. good thing if you still remember putting bacon in it, and i don’t think that makes me awake the next day . .

It’s bad enough leaving the coffee in the automatic coffee pot the night before but leaving stinky bacon out all night… Phew!

The article says it’s a frozen piece of bacon that is inserted. I would assume that being frozen would keep it fresh enough until it was cooked in the morning.

Wow. Good idea. This can really sell. Come to think of it, a nice smell of whatever’s cooking always wake me up without being irritated.
