It’s loud, obnoxious and almost deafening, but Jason Quiring said the crazy cacophony may be the solution to greedy gas grabbers.

“I came up with the gas tank alarm,” said Quiring.

Here’s how it works: You turn the alarm on. Walk away and do whatever you need to do. If anyone tries to open your gas tank while the alarm is on, you know what happens next.

Quiring came up with the idea after local law enforcement became the latest victims of siphoning.

“Several months ago one of the Eugene Police cars had gas siphoned out of the police car, and I was reading the newspaper and I thought we could come up with an invention to solve this problem,” said Quiring.

Quiring’s new invention is causing quite a buzz and he said he hopes the simple technology ends up on gas tanks everywhere.

That may draw a lot of attention if someone tried to steal my gas, but wouldn’t it just be easier (and cheaper) to get a locking gas cap? I used to have one on my old car and it seemed to do the trick.

I think its much better if you have a locking gas cap than this alarm because what if your already far from your car then it alarm suddenly, you still have to run fast to get into your car and maybe the thieves already siphoning your gasoline.
