The irony of Sarah Sammon’s rapid business growth is that no matter how hard she works, she will never have to remind herself to take time to smell the roses. As joint managing director of Simply Rose Petals, Sammon is constantly surrounded by those fragrant flowers.
Her business supplies dried rose petals in up to 35 different colours to brides-to-be in Australia and now to 11 countries worldwide.
Sammon came to this business in 2005 through an unconventional route. After finishing her science degree, she travelled the world for three years working as a ski instructor before returning to her family farm at Swan Hill in northern Victoria.
There were few jobs in that area, so Sammon invented her own.
”I had no business experience. My science degree has helped me with research skills. But from day one of running this business, I learned how much I loved business itself and working for myself especially. It wasn’t until then that I realised business was my passion.”
