Chatham Store Owner Nominated As Top Canadian Mompreneur Of The Year

Chatham Daily News:

Baby ‘n Me, a Chatham company owned by Tammy Chouinard, has been nominated for the title of Canada’s top “mompreneur” of the year.

The top prize is $17,000 in cash and business advisory services.

Chouinard launched her home-based business in February of 2007 and caters to the larger Canadian markets of Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto.

Her focus is on organic and natural items.

“I’m now wanting to offer my products to the Chatham-Kent region and educate parents on the toxins that can be found in mainstream products,” she said.

For example, Chouinard said there are many benefits to cloth diapering including the fact disposable diapers contribute substantially to landfills and will not break down for hundreds of years.

“Many disposable also contain chemicals that have been banned from feminine care products,” she said. “Cloth diapers are much more user-friendly than most people think and they have come a long way from the ones used a generation ago.”

Chouinard has also recently launched a local Mom forum called Mom2Mom Lambton-Kent. The online community allows moms in the region to meet other moms, chat about various topics and learn about the views and methods of fellow caregivers.

“Winning the award would allow me to offer much more to the community,” she said. “I’m dedicated to helping moms by offering them a resource where they can learn about living a greener lifestyle.”
