Mother & Daughter Design Kids Clothing

aikenstandard.com:

A local mother and daughter have turned their talents into a booming business.

Carole Carver and her daughter Melissa Bryan began sewing together several years ago. The pair have created and designed everything from handbags and headbands to dresses and pants.

Earlier this year they decided to name their growing business Palmetto Cuties and, a few months ago, launched the business on the Internet.

Now they sew every chance they get as the inventory moves rapidly. They pride themselves on the fact that no two outfits are the same; they simply love to create new designs for children’s clothing.

The pair handcrafts every outfit from start to finish with detailed applique and attention to detail. Working together as a team, the duo each plays an instrumental role in making the clothing. Bryan tends to do most of the sewing, and Carver does the applique.

Carver had been sewing for years and developed a business based around purses. “Melissa learned to sew from watching me in just two weeks,” she said.

Bryan began to make purses alongside her mother, and over time they decided to steer away from purses and developed the children’s clothing line.

The pair admit they lean toward making little girls’ clothing and frequently use pinks and greens, as well as vintage fabrics. Both girls’ and boys’ clothing are available for newborns through age 6.
