New Montessori School Opens For Business
Back to school time has special meaning for Mandy Lobaugh this year.
This is the first school year for her newly-opened business, Creative Minds Montessori School.
The school, which occupies the extensively renovated top floor of a structure which had previous incarnations as an indoor mini-golf business and a furniture store, officially opened in July and is currently enrolling new students ages six weeks to 6 years.Lobaugh, a 1993 graduate of Boyertown Area Senior High School and a graduate of Cedar Crest University with a degree in psychology, came up with the idea to start her own school three years ago. At the time, she was looking for daycare for her then 2-year-old son. Lobaugh, who had worked for a Montessori school in Blue Bell prior to his birth, was searching for just the right provider for him in the Boyertown area. Unable to find one she felt was suitable, Lobaugh decided to open a day-care center in her Boyertown home.
“I got my home day-care license and set up the basement like a Montessori school, and then I just worked with the kids on a daily basis. Before I knew it, people were calling and asking if they could bring their kids,” she said. “It was my dream to open a bigger school. Not long ago, I drove by this place with my husband and we went in. Now, three years later, this is here.
