Homeschool Your Kids into Business

Whether you’re an entrepreneur that also homeschools (like my family), or you would just like to teach your child the basics of starting their own business, the website Homeschool-Entrepreneur.com is a new and growing resource to help. Compiled by veteran homeschool/entrepreneurs, it offers resources for starting a home business, and teaching your children to do the same.

Teaching our children how to identify their strengths, and then giving them the tools to start a business in a safe environment while offering your wisdom and advice is one of the best investments you can make in your child.

In addition to their main website, they also maintain a blog and active Twitter presence.

  • I’ve heard of some people who teach their children about business by letting them be active within their own. I don’t have the article on hand, but I once read about a mom who started a business just so her son could run it.

These are things I wish they could teach in high school. They have a business management/marketing course at some schools, like the one I attended, but they don’t get nearly as hands on as they should. I was the inspiration for my BM/M teacher to create an ecommerce curriculum when I was in the class.

Yes, my business goal in high school was to start an online store. :-)

  • Thanks for sharing this. I think they are onto something with this one.

  • Being the owner of Homeschool-Entrepreneur, (thanks for the post!) I just wanted to mention that learning how to ‘home-biz’ isn’t just for homeschoolers. There’s more than one survey quoted saying over 70% of high school students would like to have their own business someday, but most of them had no idea how to start one.

I don’t know about you, but the business course I had in high school (which was actually an experiment at the time..) was so general and corporate focused, it put us all to sleep. I really don’t understand why entrepreneurship isn’t more encouraged at the high school level. Maybe I’m a little biased. Just maybe.

. . ps This blog is great for any entrepreneur-wanna-be! It’s required reading in our house!
