Inventor Aims To Save Beers

Evening Gazette:

A Saltburn inventor will be pitching his unique beermats to industry heavyweights in London next week.

Simon Hartley, 38, invented the Drink Bouncer – a beer mat which is placed on top of drinks when the customer goes to the toilet or when smokers go outside.

Simon said: “I came up with the idea before the smoking ban came in, though I had been thinking about it for a while.

“It’s to stop pints going missing or being collected when you go out for a cigarette or to the toilets.

“Plus it saves landlords having to replace those pints for free.”

Simon will have his own stall at the show for three and a half days and is hoping that big breweries will sign up to the idea by sponsoring the mats which will then be free to pubs.

  • I don’t drink, I have never been to a bar, but that sounds like a great idea!

Too bad they don’t have something like that available for when you’re at a restaurant and they assume you’ve left because you went to the bathroom. It happens, believe me. :-)

  • Same with Angela I don’t drink but yes sounds great idea.

I just hope a year or 2 years from now they will open for franchise as I am sure someone interested on this kind of business especially nowadays people mostly like to unwind to pubs, bar and restaurant.

  • drinks makes people to enjoy life, but not to the point of getting drunk, just being a light drinker.. it’s a matter of disciplining yourself.

  • That is good idea.

I don’t know how many people are gonna jump on though. It’s almost too simple. It just looks like a coaster that you put on top of your drink.

  • Hi everyone.
I am the inventor of the drinkbouncer and still, no government funding is available to help me get this out there. I have tried and tried and this government says it wants people with disabilities off incapacity benefit and into work but here I am, still trying without their help whatsoever. Is that what the government want? Yes because even when I wrote to Gordon Brown personally, they passed me off to the local government authority who then said they cant help! This government is a disgrace in the way the ymanage and treat people. I cannot print tens of thousands of drinkbouncers on benefits. The whole aim of the drinkbouncer apart from protecting your drink is to advertise and make money like beer mats do. The power of advertising is massive but only if you have the tool. I have the tool but I dont have the money and it is really frustrating to say the least.
Legi who were given over £10 million to help people like me threw me off saying they cant help. Thank you legi and Redcar & Cleveland council who run legi.
