Web Opens Door For Net-Savvy Moms

24 Hours Vancouver:

Twenty years ago, moms swapped advice over the backyard clothes line. Today, they connect over a different kind of line – the intangible thread known as the web.

So it’s no surprise that two Internet-mom companies cleaned up in the SavvyMom Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

A Nanaimo mom took top prize for her childcare directories, www.canadiannanny.ca and www.canadiansitter.ca and Vancouver’s Annemarie Tempelman-Kluit came in a solid second with her everything from shopping to sleep advice e-newsletter, www.yoyomama.ca.

“Moms just recognize the gaps,” says Tempelman-Kluit, who started Yoyomama.ca after deciding not to go back to work after her second child. And Internet shopping is a no-brainer for moms, she says. “You don’t have to park. You don’t have to drag strollers around.”
