Sandwich Maker Gears Up To Celebrate America’s Favorite Sandwich

Franchising.com:

Charley’s Grilled Subs, known for its made-to-order, grilled subs, is pleased to announce its celebration of National Philly CheeseSteak Month, beginning January 1, 2009, at all of its 370 locations worldwide. The campaign will be launched to support awareness of this favored comfort food, while also promoting the health benefits of eating lean meat and vegetables. The company will also donate a portion of each sandwich sold during the month of January (up to $10,000) to support the National Kidney Foundation.

Charley’s Grilled Subs has made the decision to partner with the National Kidney Foundation because of their dedicated efforts to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the availability of all organs for transplantation. “Over the summer we were all moved to witness such an act of faith and kindness by Charley’s franchisee, Marcus Gilbert, who donated his kidney to save the life of an employee,” shares James Pa, Senior Director of Marketing for Charley’s. “Although every enterprise has fiscal responsibility, we must remember that the heartbeat of a business is always its people. Partnering with the National Kidney Foundation was a simple extension of Charley’s commitment to ‘strengthening our neighbors.'”

Many studies point to the health benefits of consuming lean meat and vegetables as part of a healthy, “better for you” diet. Charley’s signature Philly CheeseSteak and Philly Chicken subs remain a healthier alternative to similar sandwiches made by competitors. With the option of low or zero calorie condiments, Charley’s grilled subs are prepared with ingredients that fall into four out of the six major food groups, providing protein (meat), vegetables, dairy (cheese) and carbohydrates (bread).
