After all the early missteps that came from running his first coffee shop, Ed Wethli can now see how it inspired the training he offers his customers today.

There was making the coffee, and making it well. There was marketing. And there was dealing with his franchise operator, from whom he recalls getting so much more aggravation than support that he eventually sued them, dropping his relationship to rename his two Oakland coffee shops Kiva Han, which still operate today.

While Wethli sold the two coffee shops six years ago to focus on growing his roasting business, Cranberry-based Kiva Han Coffee Co., he has taken the lessons of how to run a good coffee shop profitably and shown his growing roster of clients, who order coffee from him for their own coffee shops, how to better do it themselves.
