Mom Creates Quilts Out Of Clothing

Tennessean.com:

When Anne Elizabeth McIntosh entered her son’s room one Saturday morning, she found the place covered in old T-shirts.

Of the 43 shirts, only eight still fit, but mom and son spent the next two hours telling stories about all the others that didn’t. The two realized there were a lot of memories attached to all those cotton Tees.

And since she couldn’t bring herself to throw them away, she made a quilt out of them. It was on that day that Retrospreads was born, an Internet-based service that creates custom quilts and blankets out of treasured T-shirts, uniforms and other articles of clothing.

McIntosh started the business last February and has been amazed at how quickly it’s grown.

“This was probably not the best year to open a business, but I’ve been shocked by how well it’s done,” McIntosh said.

“If you can be profitable in an economy like this, what an opportunity you have in the years to come.”

McIntosh said when customers place an order, they choose a design package, in which they choose many shirts, and what fabric they want for the backing.
